i'm not the best at following directions, but decided to give the momofuku milk bar compost cookie mix a try. it's been a long time since i've made cookies out of a box, but this package came with dry ingredients so it still took some effort to make. and since the box mix doesn't come with measurements for its packets, i took out some measuring cups to see just how much was in each packet.

compost cookie; 9 tablespoons unsalted butter, 1 cup graham cracker crumbs, ½ cup brown sugar, ½ cup white sugar, 1 egg, ¾ cup flour, ¾ cup chocolate and butterscotch chips, 1 cup lightly crushed salted plain potato chips, ½ cup lightly crushed mini pretzels.

in a small bowl, place the graham cracker crumbs and add 1 tablespoon melted butter-- squeezing gently with your fingers until small clusters form. it should hold its shape when squeezed with your hand. then refrigerate until ready to use.

in a large bowl, mix the sugar and the remaining 8 tablespoons of room temperature butter. beat on medium-high speed until light and fluffy. add the egg and beat for another 30 seconds. increase the speed and beat until the mixture is pale in color and almost doubled in volume. it takes about 10 minutes.

reduce the speed to medium-low and add the flour until everything is incorporated. add the chocolate and butterscotch chips. take the graham cracker crumbs from the refrigerator and mix it all in. then fold in the potato chips and pretzels until everything is mixed well.

chill the dough (the directions say to separate the dough in balls on a baking sheet then freeze, but i thought it would save space to chill it all then cut).

after about an hour, it was time to cut the dough! bake the cookies in an oven at 375° F for about 10 minutes until lightly browned on the edges, then let the cookies cool completely.

overall, i thought it tasted pretty good despite its appearance. i just realized that the original recipe yields 9 cookies, whereas i made about 27 cookies-- perhaps that's why it lost its shape. however, it wasn't quite a hit with friends and family who said that the usual cookies tasted better.

  1. omg I went to a cookie exchange party last month and this girl (pastry chef) made momofuku cookies and brought them. apparently it was also called crack cookies because one bite makes you feel like you're on crack.. THAT addicting. soooo gooooood. the one she made also had a marshmallow in it, nomnomnom!
