the carnations soaked for hours in warm water mixed with packets of flower food,

before being cut and thrown into the mix along with the fern and baby's breath.

thin wires were inserted into the base of each flower and wrapped with floral tape.

we worked in an assembly line to get the corsages cut, wrapped, and twirled.

in the end, there were about a hundred corsages ready to go! thank you sisters!

and although i don't prefer carnations, i must say that these flowers hold up incredibly well without water-- so much better than roses. i really would love to see corsages made from succulents next year, but that idea didn't seem to fly too well with some of the mothers i asked. i guess we'll just have to see what happens next year.
