'you shouldn't write in your bible, it's disrespectful to God.'


to be honest, that statement caught me completely off guard. during sunday school, one of my kids glanced at my bible while we were reading it and responded in alarm. i tried to explain that it's a matter of choice, but he kept saying it was offensive to God.


i started writing in my bible during my freshman year of college-- after a weekend retreat where we spent eight hours a day in inductive bible study, which led to weekly mark studies for the rest of the year. we marked up the text, made observations, became excited about learning together, and learned a whole deal of truth from God's living word. even now, writing in my bible helps me make observations and remember important lessons.
