i'm always trying to find creative ways to have fun with diy art-- this time it was succulents in a book (encyclopedia, to be exact). this was one of the most time consuming projects i've worked on in quite some time, but totally worth it for the lovely result. ♥

the encyclopedia was filled with thousands of bright, colorful pages on a variety of topics,

when i sketched the cut-out area, i left some space on the bottom half of the page so that some information would still be visible later.

it took a long time to manually cut out a large rectangle from hundreds of pages.

it seemed like a simple task, but it wasn't. hours turned into days and paper was everywhere!

after the book was hollowed out enough, it was time to fill it with succulents!

lastly, i added moss to the succulents to complete the look!

tip: i actually put a container inside the hole so that i wouldn't have to seal the pages. that way, you can also flip the book open to whatever page you want to.
